Annapolis Symphony Opening Weekend Concert

| September 07, 2012, 11:10 AM | 0 Comments

The Annapolis Symphony Orchestra’s (ASO) 2012-2013 season-opening concert at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts will be held on Friday, September 28, 2012 and Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 8 PM. Under the musical direction of Maestro José-Luis Novo, the ASO will be accompanied by acclaimed British pianist Michael Roll for these concerts which will feature John Mackey’s Redline Tango, Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3, and a suite from Sergei Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet.

Mr. Roll made his concerto debut with the City of Birmingham Orchestra at the age of ten and his Royal Festival Hall debut at twelve, playing the Schumann Piano Concerto with Sir Malcolm Sargent conducting. His success at the first Leeds International Piano Competition in 1963, where he won first prize at the age of 17, led to the start of a career which has taken him all over the world, appearing with such conductors as Barbirolli, Boulez, Giulini, Gergiev, Haitink, Leinsdorf, Masur, Previn, Sanderling and Sawallisch.

Adult tickets start at $25 and student tickets are $10. Starting August 31, 2012, tickets for these concerts can be purchased through the ASO website at www.annapolissymphony.org, by calling 410-263-0907, or by stopping by the ASO Box Office in room 204 at Maryland Hall in Annapolis, Monday through Friday, 9:30am – 5:30pm.

Concertgoers can also purchase a variety of subscription packages from a full Lexus Classic Concert Series or flexible three or four-concert packages. Special student rates are also available. First-time subscribers receive a 50% discount on Lexus Classic Series subscriptions in section B or C. Offer expires September 29, 2012.

All concert ticket holders are invited to attend a free and informative pre-concert lecture in the auditorium at 6:45pm before the concert. Led by British pianist and lecturer Dr. Rachel Franklin, these entertaining talks enhance the concert experience by providing historical and insightful perspectives on the music to be played. Lectures are sponsored by Bank of America.

Additional season support for the ASO generously provided by Lexus, Maryland State Arts Council, Elizabeth Richebourg Rea, Friends of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra and Anne Arundel Arts Council.

The Annapolis Symphony Orchestra features 70 professional musicians who perform a variety of symphonic music for audiences of all ages. Additionally, the non-profit organization provides educational programs through its partnerships with local schools, as well as various other community outreach efforts. The ASO’s vision is to be the best regional orchestra in the country, recognized as a jewel in the Washington/Baltimore area.
