Alzheimer’s Association, Maryland

The Alzheimer’s Association is a nonprofit organization which seeks to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through advancement of research, to enhance care and support for individuals, their families and caregivers, and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health. A variety of Volunteer Opportunities  are available throughout the year including: office & clerical assistance including data entry and mailings, community outreach representatives including those to attend Health Fairs and speakers, helpline specialist, and family support group facilitators. Volunteers are also needed to assist with fundraising events:

·         8:00-Noon, am, Sat., Oct. 20, 2012, Walk to End Alzheimer’s:  Friendly, outgoing volunteers, age 15 and up, are needed for a variety of positions before, during and after the walk which is being held atSevern School in Severna Park, MD. Help is needed to greet participants & guide parking, for set-up & take-down, to help with food, beverage, and T-shirt distribution, photograph the event, and more. Annapolis Dept. of Recreation & Parks

The City of Annapolis requests the assistance of Annapolis residents and businesses to earn its Community Wildlife Habitat certification by the National Wildlife Federation. Once certification is achieved, Annapolis will join 60 other certified communities across the country with its wildlife-friendly environment.  In order to obtain this certification the City must obtain over 400 points in wildlife habitat creation. Part of the program is to get over 200 Annapolis residents to certify their own backyards as a wildlife habitat. Annapolis Film Festival

The Annapolis Film Festival, to be held in historic downtown Annapolis, Maryland, March 21-24, 2013, is accepting entries at www.annapolisfilmfestival.net  via the link to “Withoutabox.” The deadline for submissions isDecember 15th, 2012. This is an opportunity to have your film showcased at an exciting, new festival which will be well attended by audiences from the entire region.  Entries are being accepted in a number of categories and films will be shown at a variety of locations in downtown Annapolis. Selections will be made by a committee of film professionals with the final slate of 50-70 films announced after January 4th, 2013.  The Festival will also feature internationally acclaimed film-makers, guest speakers, and panel discussions. ·         September 23, 2012, “Shorts Crawl” Fund Raiser: There is an immediate need of volunteers to manage the inaugural SHORTS CRAWL fall fundraiser. Six West Street bars/restaurants are opening their doors to this new Annapolis film experience. Guests will go from one venue to the next where they will enjoy drinks, light fare and viewings of a group of short films. Volunteers are needed to help with registration, sales, stage/venue management, group and schedule control, and audio-visual/technical support. Anne Arundel Department of Aging and Disabilities

The Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities is seeking volunteers for its Telephone Reassurance Program, which checks daily on seniors age 55 and older and adults age 18 and older who have disabilities and are living alone.  The free Telephone Reassurance Program operates 365 days a year from 7:30 –10 a.m. Seniors and clients with disabilities can expect friendly telephone calls from volunteers at the same time every day to make certain they are okay. Family members, whether they live nearby or far away, can have the reassurance that their loved ones are in daily contact with the Department of Aging and Disabilities. Bello Machre

This nonprofit provides loving homes for adults and children with developmental disabilities. Bello Machre is currently offering a variety of volunteer opportunities. In addition some specific opportunities include someone to pick up pastry donations from Starbucks and a volunteer with sewing experience to help a resident artist with putting together a display for next year’s art show. ·         September 19, 2012, 28th Annual Golf Tournament: Volunteers are needed to assist in securing auction items for the Tournament. The tasks include visiting and calling potential auction contributors to solicit donations, and emailing or faxing solicitation letters and materials to potential auction contributors. ·         10:00 am – 4:00 pm, Sat., Sept. 22, 2012, Employee Appreciation Picnic:. Volunteer are needed to assist as greeters, raffle crew, set-up crew, clean-up crew, food service crew, and games crew. Contact Evette Watson.


Military Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS)

MOPS International exists to encourage, equip, and develop every mother of preschoolers to realize her potential as a woman, mother and leader in the name of Jesus Christ. Military MOPS is looking for loving, caring, nurturing volunteers who like to work with children ages infant through age five. Military MOPS meets twice a month on Wednesdays, from 9:30-11:30. Project Green: 9/11 Day of Service Remembrance, Sept. 8, 2012

Join us on September 8th from 8:30am – noon at Jonas Green Park in Annapolis for Project Green!  Be a part of Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup, the world’s largest volunteer event of its kind.  Nearly nine million volunteers from 152 countries and locations cleaned up 145 million pounds of trash from the shores of lakes, streams, rivers, and the ocean on just one day each year.  We will begin the day with a commemorative ceremony at 8:30am at the MD WW II monument on Ritchie Hwy overlooking Jonas Green Park. Pre- registration is required. Sign-up to volunteer online at: www.VolunteerAnneArundel.org/OpportunityCalendar or email[email protected].


Watershed Stewards Academy (WSA)

WSA trains and supports community leaders called Master Watershed Stewards to help their communities reduce pollution and restore their waterways. Those interested in being certified as a Master Watershed Steward, should attend one of several informational meetings this summer (August 21, 27 or Sept. 5, 2012) to learn more about the program. All informational sessions will be held at Arlington Echo Outdoor Education Center in Millersville from6:30-7:30 pm. Registration is required.   The Certification Course is composed of approximately 13 sessions fromOctober 2012-March 2013. Applications will be accepted through September 12, 2012.
