HIt & Run Claims Life In Harwood

On August 12, 2012 at approximately 0724 hours, officers from the Anne Arundel County Police Department, Southern District, responded to a report of an unresponsive male lying off the edge of the roadway onSolomons Island Road north of Harwood Road.

Officers arrived on scene and located a fatally injured pedestrian off the edge of the northbound roadway. The investigation determined that the pedestrian was struck by an unknown vehicle traveling northbound on Solomon’s Island Road. The vehicle fled the scene of the crash after striking the pedestrian. It appears that the pedestrian was obeying the rules of the road but was wearing dark clothing at the time he was struck.

Crash investigators from the Traffic Safety Section responded to the scene to assume the investigation.  Evidence collected at the scene indicates that the suspect vehicle is a 2003 Volkswagen Golf, MK4 with no other information available. The suspect vehicle should have significant damage to the passenger side and include the grille, bumper, windshield and mirror.

The identity of the pedestrian is currently under investigation and updated information will be released upon notification to the next of kin.
