A Revival In Whitmore Park Tonight

| August 12, 2012, 10:27 AM | 0 Comments
A revival is coming to Whitmore Park. This ½ acre park on the corner of Calvert and Clay Streets in downtown Annapolis is quickly becoming the new community gathering place. For years this corner of the City of Annapolis was filled with entertainment at the Star Theatre and the The Dixie Hotel. Now after several decades the tide is returning and a new generation or entertainers is once again returning and bringing the community together in the Old Fourth Ward of Annapolis.
A year ago the only event held at Whitmore Park was the popular First Sunday Arts Festivals that brings over 40,000 people annually out to enjoy the arts in Annapolis. This year the newly formed non-profit Friends of Annapolis Parks teamed up with We Care and Friends to bring the Dixie Hotel Thursday Nite Jazz Concert series. These free jazz concerts are held in the park held every other Thursday evening. Attracting over 100 local residents to the park to enjoy an evening of jazz. Last week’s concert on Thursday evening August 9th, featured the local jazz group Raw Hands.
Now another group is teaming up to bring a new concert series to Whitmore Park. Tonight Sunday August 12th from 6-8pm the new concert series will bring Gospel in the Park every Sunday evening this summer. The first gospel group to be featured is The Spiritual Vibrations. This local high energy group will fill the park with a harmony that will revive your soul. This concert series will be hosted by Mooney Day.
Whitmore Park is located at the corner of Calvert and Clay Streets in downtown Annapolis. It is about a block from the popular Inner West Street restaurants making it the perfect place to grab some carry out and have a picnic in the park. Parking is easy with the Whitmore Garage and Gott’s Court garage located on the block.
