Anne Arundel Community College on July 26 honored 34 students who graduated from its Physician Assistant (PA) certificate program with a recognition and awards ceremony.
The faculty selected three students for awards presented by Michelle Jiles Hill, M.S.P.A.S.,
P.A.-C., academic coordinator of the program. The recipient of Dean’s Award for having the highest cumulative grade-point average is Alissa Anne Parmelee of Bethesda. The President’s Award was given to C. Michael Surendra of Columbia in recognition of his leadership and contributions to his class and profession. The Faculty Award went toLauren Elizabeth Teter of Annapolis, who was recognized as the student who best exemplified the code of ethics of the PA profession.
Inductees to Pi Alpha for academic excellence were Ivan Borissow of Sunderland, Justin Everson of Pasadena,Alissa Anne Parmelee of Bethesda and Martha Townsend of Catonsville.
The students selected Jeffrey Tayag Marucut of Owing Mills to receive the Clinician’s Clinician Award for professional integrity and clinical excellence. They also gave the 2012 Clinical Preceptor of the Year award to occupational medical preceptor Kevin Winstead, PA-C, of Concentra Medical Center in Columbia and a graduate of AACC’s Physician Assistant Class of 2002.
Delivering the keynote address was Rajul P. Shah, M.M.S., PA-C. He is an adjunct professor for the AACC PA program; works for an orthopedic physician assistant multispecialty; and he is a graduate of AACC’s Physician Assistant Class of 2006.

The Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant accredits the PA program, which offers enrollment by competitive selection to students with a bachelor’s degree or higher.
