Annapolis Department of Transportation
The Department is seeking energetic and outgoing volunteer “Annapolis Street Team” members to distribute and post marketing materials about our new Circulator trolley & improved parking garages, and to assist locals and tourists in an effort to improve the community. This is an exciting volunteer opportunity for a high school or college student from mid-April through the end of August. Volunteers will wear Annapolis shirts and caps and work downtown evenings from 6–8 pm and weekends from 11 am–3 pm. The Fair is an all-volunteer nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization bringing family entertainment, competition and education to people of all ages in Anne Arundel County and surrounding areas. Centro de Ayuda (Center of Help)
The Center of Help in Annapolis is looking for very special people who are willing to volunteer their time to change and improve the lives of those in their community. They need Greeters/Administrative Support Volunteers: Duties performed will be answering phones, data entry, word processing, filing documents, etc. Speaking fluently in Spanish is a must. We ask that volunteers are able to commit to two hours for the day that they will be volunteering. In addition, volunteer substitute English as a Second Language (ESOL) instructors are needed. Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating–Fourth Sundays Apr.–Oct.
CRAB promotes the joy of sailing in specially modified boats to persons with disabilities and their families. CRAB volunteer skippers, crewmembers and dockhands offer monthly “SailFree” events every fourth Sunday of the month from April through October from 10 am-4 pm at the Marina at Sandy Point State Park. Volunteers are needed year round as members of the Board of Directors, to assist with sailing programs for children of CentralSpecial School and MD School for the Blind, fleet, & equipment maintenance, and more. Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS)
This agency works with adults with disabilities to help them toward employment, economic self-sufficiency and independence. A volunteer Receptionist/Office Assistant is needed who is reliable, has good telephone skills to assist in answering and directing incoming phone calls, has basic computer skills, and is able to follow directions and has knowledge of basic office equipment. Earleigh Heights Volunteer Fire Company
The volunteer fire company seeks volunteers, age 16 and up, to serve as fire fighters and EMTs, to help with fundraising, event planning, safety education, facilities supervision and planning, website design and maintenance, clerical support, long range and strategic planning, public relations and marketing, grant writing, and business administration. No experience is needed for volunteers desiring to serve as firefighters and EMTs as firefighting/EMS training will be furnished. Hospice of the Chesapeake
Hospice of the Chesapeake is a nonprofit organization that helps families care for terminally ill loved ones in their homes or a home-like setting or wherever they need care. The Hospice is announcing a Volunteer Information Night for prospective volunteers from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, August 8, 2012. in their Annapolis Office located at 445 Defense Highway. Watershed Stewards Academy (WSA)
WSA trains and supports community leaders called Master Watershed Stewards to help their communities reduce pollution and restore their waterways. Those interested in being certified as a Master Watershed Steward, should attend one of several informational meetings this summer (August 6, 21, 27 or Sept. 5, 2012) to learn more about the program. All informational sessions will be held at Arlington Echo Outdoor Education Center in Millersville from 6:30-7:30 pm. Applications will be accepted through September 12, 2012. The Certification Course is composed of approximately 13 sessions from October 2012-March 2013.
