Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay
Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay is an established conservation, non-profit organization whose mission is to restore the Chesapeake Bay through collaborative engagement with all the communities that work and live in the Bay area. Part-time volunteers are needed to staff the reception desk, answer phones, and provide some general clerical support and occasional program/project support for the headquarters staff. Hours are flexible with the objective of enabling full 9-5 office staffing in conjunction with permanent staff. This is an unpaid volunteer opportunity. American Red Cross Blood Drives
Volunteers are needed to greet donors, provide customer service, and serve refreshments. The American Red CrossDonor Center is located in Glen Burnie; blood drives are situated throughout Anne Arundel County. Must be 14 years of age or older. Must complete an application and attend a training session. Volunteers over 18 years of age will require a background check. Annapolis Police Department Auxiliary Officer Program
The Annapolis Police Department is looking for volunteer, uniformed Auxiliary Officers to render assistance to the police department in various capacities. The Auxiliary Officer shall render volunteer police services such as Traffic Control, Fingerprinting, Administrative Duties, Dignitary Details and Community Relations Functions. The Auxiliary Officer is not compensated monetarily, is not authorized to carry weapons, and is not vested with arrest authority. Uniforms and transportation will be furnished for official duties, and police procedure training will be provided in both formal classroom and on-the-job training sessions. Applicants must be at least 21 years old, be a United States Citizen, have no felony convictions or serious misdemeanor convictions, possess a valid Marylanddriver’s license and have a good driving record. He or she must be capable of providing a minimum of 10 hours of service each month, have a telephone, be in good physical condition and must agree to a background investigation, a fingerprint check, a drug screening test, and an oral interview. Annapolis Woodworkers Guild
This nonprofit educational and cooperative organization of men and women work with wood and want to learn more about the fine art of woodworking. They meet at 7:00 PM on the second Thursday each month at theDavidsonville United Methodist Church, 819 W. Central Ave, Davidsonville, MD 21035. The Guild builds planters, benches, signs, tables and other items for local nonprofit organizations that provide the lumber. Annapolis Youth Services Bureau
This organization provides youth oriented comprehensive professional services to youth for the general prevention of juvenile delinquency. Mentors are needed for youth ages 5 – 18 after background checks and training. Volunteers are also needed for educational and cultural activities for children. AYSB is dedicated to serving as a positive force in improving the lives and well-being of children, by providing, and advocating for, prevention and early intervention programs and treatment services for children, youth, and families. Arthritis Foundation
The Mid-Atlantic Region serves Maryland, Delaware, DC, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina by making the public knowledgeable about arthritis and the importance of appropriate treatment and by helping people take personal control of their arthritis through self-help classes, warm water and land exercise programs and support and education groups. Assistance League of the Chesapeake
Volunteers are needed for community programs that include serving as guest readers at public elementary schools, tutoring at Georgetown East Elementary School in Annapolis and Meade Heights Elementary School in FortMeade, and participating in casual sing-along programs for seniors at various local assisted living facilities. Member-volunteers prepare and deliver emergency kits to homebound residents in Anne Arundel County. Member-volunteers also work with specified schools to provide school uniforms for needy children. A puppet troupe brings interactive programs dealing with issues such as bullying, teasing, and special needs to elementary schools in the county. Calvert Animal Welfare League
The organization located in Prince Frederick operates a state-of-the-art adoption and education center. Volunteers age 14 and up with adult supervision are needed for 2 shifts daily of animal care, to provide foster homes, and as administrative support for short and long term projects. Chesapeake Bay Foundation
The Chesapeake Bay Foundation is the largest conservation organization dedicated solely to saving the Chesapeake Bay. A wide variety of volunteer opportunities are available throughout the year. • Hands On Restoration Projects: Doing tree nursery work, living shore line, wetland, underwater grass, and oyster restoration and gardening projects, Clean the Bay Day, and more. See website for details and calendar.
• Outreach and Education: Representing CBF at boat shows, seafood festivals, state fairs, and other outreach events, assisting with education programs, participating with the speaker’s bureau to give presentations to interested groups about health of the Bay and its tributaries.
• Advocacy: Provide administrative assistance helping with a variety of office tasks, including research, data entry, answering phones, and mailings. Opportunities are also available to serve as a tour guide at Philip MerrillEnvironmental Center and the Annapolis green headquarters building.
North County Emergency Outreach Network (NCEON)
NCEON in cooperation with area churches helps persons in their community in need of crisis assistance because of evictions, utility turn-off notices, emergency prescription needs, food pantry or other services. NCEON needs occasional volunteers to staff the office, stock shelves, bag food for the pantry and donate food and other items for the pantry.
