Rock Cats Use 10-Run 1st To Top Baysox

The Bowie Baysox (42-41) gave up 10 runs in the first inning and lost to the New Britain Rock Cats (45-37) 14-7 on Tuesday night.

The Baysox struck first in the top of the first inning.  Antoan Richardson and Robbie Widlansky each drew walks to put two runners on with two outs.  Manny Machado then hit a two-run triple to knock both in and on the play Machado also scored on a throwing error.  Rhyne Hughes followed with a double and scored on single by Zelous Wheeler to make the score 4-0.

In the bottom of the first, the Rock Cats answered right back.  Bobby Bundy recorded just two outs in the inning and 15 players came to the plate as the Rock Cats scored 10 times.  The first seven players of the inning all reached base and scored capped by a home run by Estarlin De Los Santos.  After Bundy retired the next two batters, the Rock Cats scored three more times on three straight RBI singles to make the score 10-4.

After each team threw three consecutive scoreless innings, the Baysox got back on the board in the top of the fifth inning.  Richardson, Jonathan Schoop and Josh Barfield all reached base to load up the bases with no one out.  Then Robbie Widlansky hit a two-run single that made the score 10-6.

In the sixth inning, Wheeler led off with a double and then scored when Brian Ward doubled to make the score 10-7.

The Rock Cats put the game away in the bottom of the sixth when they scored three more runs.  With two outs and two runners on De Los Santos hit a two-run double and Shawn Roof followed with an RBI single to make the score 13-7.

In the eighth, the Rock Cats got one more run when Roof hit another RBI single to make the score 14-7.

Edgar Ibarra got the win going 1.1 innings in relief and allowing one run on two hits with one walk.

Daniel Sattler pitched 3.1 innings to finish off the game and earn his first save of the season.

Bobby Bundy picked up his league worst 10th loss of the season.  He lasted just 0.2 innings and allowed 10 runs on nine hits with two strikeouts and one walk.

The Baysox will return home tonight at 6:05 p.m. against the Harrisburg Senators.  RHP Zach Clark (7-4, 3.30) will make the start for the Baysox aginst LHP Danny Rosenbaum (7-5, 3.17).
