The Children’s Theatre of Annapolis (CTA) recently awarded two local high school graduates scholarships as part of the Miriam Wolfe Scholarship Program.

Jessica Straub, a 2012 graduated of Broadneck High School, was awarded $1,500 and plans to attend Anne Arundel Community College to major in theatre and dance. She recently appeared in CTA’s production of Grease, Jr., playing the character “Frenchie.”

The second scholarship winner, Mark Hollerbach, is also a 2012 graduate of Broadneck High School, and was awarded $1,000. He will attend Salisbury University in the fall to study business while living in Salisbury’s Performing Arts Living Learn Community, where he will live with and take classes with other students interested in music and theatre. He also appeared in Grease, Jr., playing the role of “Kenickie.”

The scholarships were awarded at the annual senior outing, where Miriam’s mother, Rosemary Mild, was in attendance to meet the recipients and give them a signed copy of her book, “Miriam’s World — And Mine.”

Miriam Wolfe was an active member of CTA before being killed in the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, in 1988. Since then, the Children’s Theatre has awarded two scholarships annually to graduating seniors who have been active in both the theatre and the community and plan to pursue and interest in the arts. Proceeds from CTA’s concession stands fund the scholarship, as well as private donations.

The theatre is located at 1661 Bay Head Road in Annapolis, Md., and produces three shows annually for children and teens. For more information about CTA, visit Childrenstheatreofannapolis.org.
