UPDATE: From Lt. Cliff Kooser of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, there was one occupant of the building and he was not able to comment any further. The call came in at 9:57am. When crews arrived they saw fire showing and due to the heat and lack of water (the neighborhood does not have hydrants), a second alarm was immediately called. There were approximately 50 personnel on the scene and it took 40 minutes to bring the fire under control. Kooser estimates that the home sustained $200,000 in damages.  Currently the fire is under investigation and more info will be forthcoming in the next hour.

A 2-Alarm fire at 3420 block of Newport Avenue in the Arundel on the Bay community destroyed a home this morning. Crews from Anne Arundel County, Annapolis, and Grasonville fought the blaze in near 100-degree heat.

Neighbors were concerned for the woman who lived there. Her husband recently passed away and no one saw her at the scene. Fire Department officials could not release any information at this time.

Traffic into the community was at a standstill as the narrow roads were choked with dozen of fire trucks, ambulances and police cars.
