Firefighters Feel Heat For Facebook Comments. Some volunteer firefighters in a Harford County community may lose their jobs after they posted explosive comments on Facebook about an experience they had at a local fast-food restaurant.  Eight members of the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company have been suspended or demoted after voicing their opinions online about a trip they took to Sonic in May. The controversy started with one volunteer firefighter’s Facebook post on May 30 commenting on the fact that the local Sonic restaurant offers discounts to military members and police officers but not firefighters.

Torch Run Brings Together Officers For Special Olympics.  Ordinarily, 300 police officers running through the streets of Baltimore would mean they were responding to an emergency situation. But Tuesday, there was no cause for alarm. The officers were carrying the “Flame of Hope” — as part of the 27th annual Maryland Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. (NOTE: Eye On Annapolis will be covering the torch run as it lands at City Dock this afternoon at 2pm)

8 Arrested After Hotel Meth Lab Bust.   Howard County police have arrested five men after discovering what appeared to be a meth lab in a hotel room in Elkridge. Police said an anonymous caller told police there was a meth lab inside a room at a Holiday Inn Express in the 6000 block of Marshalee Drive about 10:40 p.m. Monday.  Authorities said they detected a strong odor near a room on the fourth floor. Police said they knocked on the door and were let in by three men.

Casinos Face Off In MD Gambling Debate. Regulators from the State Lottery Commission just cleared the way for Maryland Live, the nation’s third-largest casino, to open Wednesday night, but the debate as to whether a sixth casino should be added in the state so soon is still raging. The performance of the Anne Arundel County casino could be a factor in the state’s decision to expand gaming. Last week, the governor’s 11-member gambling work group heard a strong appeal from Maryland Live owner David Cordish not to expand.
