Children’s Author I’deyah Ricketts To Begin Summer Book Tour In Anne Arundel County

| June 24, 2012, 02:02 PM | 0 Comments

Nine-year-old author, I’deyah Ricketts, who released her second children’s book, Lyla Lyte and the Li’berry Fruit, will begin her book tour in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. I’deyah, whose book is published through Climbing Clouds Publishing, now available on Amazon.com will share excerpts from Lyla Lyte and the Li’berry Fruit and conduct several book signings at Meade Heights, Freetown, Germantown, Tyler Heights and Maryland City Elementary Schools in Anne Arundel County July 16-18, 2012. During the author’s visit, each student will receive a copy of I’deyah’s new book.

The main characters in Lyla Lyte and the Li’berry Fruit are faced with a self-obsessed town mayor who banned reading and destroyed the town’s library. I’deyah weaves an imaginative story in which the mayor is outflanked by kids determined to have an alternative to watching television. An enchanted seed, and a long-kept town secret, help provide an imaginative solution. “One message my book delivers,” says I’deyah, “is that reading makes you a better person. I hope to inspire children to value and love to read, like me.”

The Kirkus Book Review gave Lyla Lyte and the Li’berry Fruit a starred review, calling it, “[A] fast-paced and well-written novel. An impressive story about a girl whose courage transforms a town.” I’deyah was one of the youngest to be interviewed on the CBS Chicago television show, Someone You Should Know. The 2012 February issue of Time Out Chicago Kids Magazine also featured the young author as one of their “rising stars to watch.” I’deyah also recently spoke to over 300 participants as one of the featured speakers at the U.S. Department of Education’s Strong Fathers, Strong Families, Strong Schools event in her native Chicago.

Together, with her father, I’deyah has taken an inspirational message of reading and indulging one’s creative side to classrooms. Her presentations use visual aids and the author’s own fresh enthusiasm to encourage students to read, write and follow their dreams.

Her book’s website, www.lylalyte.com, offers many tools for the classroom, including: a teacher’s guide, comprehension quizzes, a book trailer video and an interview with the author.
