The Chesapeake Bay Trust’s Board of Trustees is pleased to announce Dr. Jana Davis as the new executive director of the Chesapeake Bay Trust.  Davis, currently the Trust’s associate executive director and chief scientist, has been a key contributor within the organization for more than six years, managing its ever-expanding grant efforts and partnership initiatives.  During her tenure at the Trust, Davis has helped expand the Trust’s technical expertise, federal and state partnerships and refine its grant programs focusing on watershed restoration, education, outreach, and innovation.  Davis also oversees the Trust’s exceptional Chesapeake Conservation Corps Program, an initiative that provides career and leadership training for young people interested in environmental careers and Chesapeake Bay protection.

“I am so pleased to announce that Jana is the Trust’s new executive director.  She have been a key leader of the Trust’s management team for many years now and her experience, expertise and accomplishments showcased her as the ideal candidate,” said Tara Potter, chair of the Chesapeake Bay Trust’s Board of Trustees.  “On behalf of the search committee and the full board, we congratulate Jana and believe she will do great things for the Trust and lead us toward our next level of success.”

Prior to her work at the Trust, Davis served as an American Association for the Advancement of Science Congressional Science Fellow in the United States Senate.  Davis is a marine ecologist, with a B.S. in biology from Yale University and a Ph.D. in oceanography from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Her research includes work on fish and blue crab ecology, fisheries, aquaculture, and shoreline habitat restoration. This work -began at Scripps and continued at the SmithsonianEnvironmental Research Center in Maryland, where she was a postdoctoral fellow, and at the WilliamsCollege – Mystic Seaport Maritime Studies Program, where she was an oceanography faculty member.

The Chesapeake Bay Trust is a Maryland-based nonprofit, grant-making organization dedicated to improving the Chesapeake Bay and its rivers through environmental education, community outreach and Bay restoration.  Since 1985, the Trust has awarded more than $45 million in grants to organizations, schools, and community groups to restore Maryland’s shorelines, educate schoolchildren about the environment, green local neighborhoods and clean-up local rivers and streams.  Since 2006, the year Davis joined the team, the Trust’s funding has almost doubled from $2.9 million in grant awards to more than $5.5 million last year.
