USNA Commissioning Week 2012 Information

For the convenience of family, friends and visitors during the traditional Herndon Climb, May 22, and Commissioning Week, May 23-29, the Naval Academy will provide free, daily shuttle buses; a dedicated phone number for schedule of events information; weather-related updates; television broadcast; and webcasting of the graduation and commissioning ceremony.

You can print out a pocket copy of the full schedule here (PDF).  Please note, there will not be a Blue Angels flight demonstration this year.

Parking

Parking at Navy–Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on Taylor Avenue is strongly advised due to anticipated congestion downtown and limited parking at USNA.  The daily fee is $5 per car and $10 per recreational vehicle. Vehicles without Department of Defense decals are not permitted aboard the academy.  Cars with handicapped tags or dashboard placards must be issued a pass from the Visitor Access Center at Gate 1 during normal business hours.  After hours, a pass may be issued at Gate 1 or Gate 8.

Shuttle Buses

Free shuttle buses will run round-trip from the stadium to the academy.

The buses will run approximately every 30 minutes from the stadium to Alumni Hall on the following schedule:

  • Tuesday, May 22 – 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • Wednesday, May 23 – 7 a.m. to midnight.
  • Thursday, May 24 – 7 a.m.–9 p.m.
  • Friday, May 25 – 7 a.m.–9 p.m.
  • Saturday, May 26 – 7 a.m.–10 p.m.
  • Sunday, May 27 – 7 a.m.–10 p.m.
  • Monday, May 28 – 6 p.m.–10 p.m.

During peak periods, please anticipate lines for the shuttle service and delays due to heavy traffic congestion in and around downtown Annapolis.

Shuttle buses will not operate on graduation day Tuesday, May 29, unless weather dictates that the ceremony be moved into Alumni Hall.  If that occurs, parking will be at the stadium and buses will run for indoor graduation ticket holders, 1st Class Midshipmen and USNA faculty and staff only. Shuttles will begin at 6 a.m. and continue until all authorized personnel have been transported to Alumni Hall.  Upon conclusion of the ceremony, buses will run until 2 p.m. between the stadium and Alumni Hall.

These schedules may change; call the USNA activities phone line at 410-293-1000 or visit the website at www.usna.edu for the most up-to-date information.
