South River Senior Wins $20K From Dell. A South River High School senior has been named one of the winners in the Dell Scholars Program. Caitlin Byrnes has been awarded $20,000 in addition to a laptop computer and printer as one of the scholarship winners funded by the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation.

Annapolis Student Wins Safety Patrol Award.  Blanca Velasquez, a fifth-grader at Tyler Heights Elementary School in Annapolis, has been named Anne Arundel County Public Schools Outstanding School Safety Patroller of the Year. The competition is sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Foundation for Safety and Education of the American Automobile Association.

Bill Would Clarify Costs Of Education. A college education can cost tens of thousands of dollars more than many students and their parents expected, leaving many deep in debt — but a bill in Congress could help change that. U.S. Sens. Barbara Mikulski and Ben Cardin are supporting a bill that the Democratic Marylanders said would help students and parents understand what a college education really costs.

USNA To Graduate First Paraplegic Midshipman. A midshipman set to become the first paraplegic to graduate from the U.S. Naval Academy will do so alongside the friends who saved his life.  Kevin Hillery will fulfill a lifelong dream Tuesday by graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy with a degree in economics — and as the first paraplegic midshipman ever to graduate from the academy, he’s an inspiration.
