Baysox Win 3rd Straight Game

After giving up a three-run lead, the Bowie Baysox (15-18) scored four runs in the 11thinning to beat the Richmond Flying Squirrels (16-18) 7-3 on Thursday night.

With one out in the 11th, Steven Bumbry singled, Jonathan Schoop doubled and L.J. Hoes was intentionally walked to load up the bases with one out.  Brandon Waring then drew a bases loaded walk to force in the go-ahead run.  With two outs in the inning, Caleb Joseph hit a bases clearing double to give the Baysox a 7-3 lead.

Both starting pitchers threw five scoreless innings to begin the game.  Then in the top of the sixth, Ronnie Welty hit a one-out single and Carlos Rojas walked to put two runners on.  With two outs in the inning, Jonathan Schoop hit a three-run home run to give the Baysox a 3-0 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Sean Gleason replaced starter Eddie Gamboa.  Ryan Cavan and Tommy Joseph started the inning with back to back singles.  Then Daniel Mayora singled to knock in Cavan.  With Chris Dominguez batting, there was a passed ball that moved Joseph to third and Mayora to second.  Dominguez then flied out to center, on the play Joseph was thrown out at the plate by L.J. Hoes and Mayora went to third.  Joel Weeks then singled to score Mayora.  After a wild pitch, Adrianza knocked in the third run of the inning with a single to left that tied up the game at 3-3.

In his first start of the season, Gamboa threw six shutout innings and allowed just two hits with five strikeouts and no walks.  He left the game with the team leading 3-0, but got a no decision.

Kyler Newby pitched the 10th and 11th innings without allowing a run and got his second win of the season.

The loss went to Brett Bochy who gave up all four runs in the 11th inning.

Tomorrow in game two of the four-game series LHP Cole McCurry (0-5, 5.93) will take on RHP Chris Heston (2-2, 1.01).

The Baysox return home on May 15 for a four-game series against the Altoona Curve.  The series will include a Military Appreciation Night on Wednesday, May 16.
