Baysox To Promote Safe Boating

Bowie Baysox

The Bowie Baysox have announced Boating Safety Day at Prince George’s Stadium, Thursday, May 24, as the Baysox take on the Richmond Flying Squirrels at 7:05 p.m. In an effort to encourage safety during National Boating Safe Week, which runs from May 19-25, the Maryland Natural Resources Police will be teaching kids how to properly wear life jackets and showing off a boat during the game.

Baysox Marketing Director Brandan Kaiser supports safe boating. “The Baysox organization closely associates itself with the Chesapeake Bay, so I think it’s extremely important that we help raise awareness for safe boating,” Kaiser said. “Our new mascot Rocko, the Pitching Fish, thinks that it is very important to know how to properly wear a life jacket when you are boating.”

“Maryland’s goal is reducing boating accidents through public awareness,” said Colonel George F. Johnson IV, Superintendent of the Maryland Natural Resources Police. “By partnering with the Bowie Baysox during National Safe Boating Week, we hope to educate the public on safe boating practices.”

The Maryland National Resources Police will have a table on the concourse, where they will be distributing information about safe boating and the PFD Panda will be helping to show kids how to properly wear a life jacket.
