The Rams Head Group has announced the release of Fordham Brewing Company’s “Wisteria Wheat” on Thursday, April 5th, 2012 from 4-6:00pm at it’s four restaurant locations within Maryland.

During the Release Party, Rams Head will have limited edition glasses available for purchase for $4, including a fill-up. Patrons who purchase the souvenir glass with also enjoy $1 refills until 6pm.

New this year, a specialty Rams Head appetizer has been added to the menu for the event, the Wisteria Pretzel.  Meant as an appetizer to share, Chef John Jennings II has created the perfect pairing with the Wisteria Wheat brew, featuring a Wisteria Wheat mustard dipping sauce.  The pretzel will be $10 and with cheese and bacon on it.

The Wisteria Wheat beer was named by the first Fordham brewer, Allen Young and the Rams Head Tavern General Manager, Corky Fertitta.  “Allen and I were sitting on the patio one spring day, tasked with coming up with some sample names for beers for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Fire Arms. All beer names have to be approved by them before you can sell it. We came up with a couple random names then hit on Wisteria Wheat, it had a nice ring to it and the wisteria vine on our patio is well known. All these years later we can’t remember any of the other names we came up with that day, but wisteria wheat stuck, and has been, ever since,  the name of one of our most beloved seasonal”.

The Wisteria Wheat utilizes a pale malt, malted wheat and torrified wheat and has an ABV of 5.8%.  Fordham Brewer brews the Wisteria Wheat with Perle hops and chamomile and it has 11 IBUs.  Interestingly, its flavor primarily comes from the Weizen strain of yeast, which gives it notes of banana and clove.

According to Fordhambrewing.com, Wisteria Wheat is the perfect brew to enjoy the beautiful days of spring.  Wisteria Wheat is a medium body beer with a soft, velvety carbonation and a wheaty finish.  This easy golden brew is sure to bring you and your friends together all spring long.  Additionally, Fordham’s Wisteria Wheat won ‘2011 Best of Washington DC Beer Selection’.
