Two County Police Officers Injured In Crofton Crash

On April 12, 2012, at approximately 10:30 am, officers from the Eastern District responded to a report of a robbery at the Sally Beauty Supply store located in the 7900 block of Crain Highway in Glen Burnie.

Upon arrival, officers spoke to the store clerk, who advised that a male suspect entered the store and went to the counter to make a purchase. When the register was opened, the suspect grabbed an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency, made verbal threats to the clerk and stole other items before fleeing the store. The suspect was seen getting into a white sedan, possible a Toyota Camry. The store employee was not injured.

Officers quickly arrived on scene and broadcast a description of the suspect vehicle to the other police districts. At about 10:38 a.m., officers from the Western District spotted the suspect vehicle travelling on Route 3 South near McKnew Road in Gambrills. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspect fled and continued travelling on Route 3 South. Officers followed the suspect, who ultimately intentionally crashed into the police vehicles and came to a stop near Route 450. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the hospital as a result of minor injuries sustained in the crash.

The suspect, Derrick Christopher Lanham, 45, of no fixed address, remained in police custody at the hospital and was later transported to Eastern District, where he is being charged with the robbery and numerous related offenses. The booking photo is not being released due to the ongoing investigation.

Two Anne Arundel County Police officers were injured this morning after being involved in a three-car collision at Route 3 and Route 450 in Crofton. According to reports, the two were pursuing a suspected stolen car.

The driver of the suspected stolen car was also injured in the incident. All three were transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center with minor injuries. Police are investigating the accident and have not released a report.
