Community Volunteer Clean Up—Wellness House Gardens

Spring daffodils in fresh shredded wood mulch ...

On Sunday, April 15, members of the community joined the Naval Academy Aquatic Club Senior Swim Team, under the direction of Coach Tom Slear, to volunteer their time to clean up the Wellness House gardens (weeding, mulching, moving plants, etc…) to beautify the gardens so Wellness House members and friends (individuals who have been touched by cancer) can enjoy them this spring and summer.

These volunteers were directed by a group of Wellness House volunteers who run the garden club; the mulch was donated by Gene Olmo with Olmo Bros landscaping, and the refreshments were donated and delivered by the Broadneck High School lacrosse teams. In addition, a generous grant of $400 from Unity Gardens helped support the purchase of additional garden supplies and plants.

“This was such a beautiful example of different members of our great community coming together to help each other out,” stated Dr. Kelly Sullivan, founder and president of the Wellness House of Annapolis.  “We are grateful to the community volunteers and Unity Gardens for their support, efforts and ongoing commitment to the well-being of those who have been touched by cancer,” added Sullivan.
