Erie SeaWolves

Despite taking an early 2-0 lead, the Baysox gave up six unanswered runs and lost to the SeaWolves 6-2 on Friday night.

Caleb Joseph got the scoring started for the Baysox with a solo home run in the second inning.  It was his first home run of the season.  Later in the inning Robbie Widlansky singled and then scored on a Brandon Waring double to make the score 2-0.

In the fifth inning, the SeaWolves got on the board on a lead off home run by Jordan Lennerton to cut the lead to 2-1.

The SeaWolves would tie up the game in the sixth inning.  Brent Wyatt drew a lead off walk and went to second on a ground out by Niuman Romero.  Brandon Douglas then singled to left to bring in Wyatt and make the score 2-2.

In the eighth inning, the SeaWolves took their first lead of the series.  With Wynn Pelzer working in his first inning of relief work, Romero drew a lead off walk and then Douglas singled to put runners at the corners.  Rawley Bishop then gave Erie the lead with a sacrifice fly that scored Romero.  Douglas would steal second.  Pedro Viola then entered the game and with two outs, Lennerton knocked in Douglas with a single to center.  The very next batter, John Murrian, broke the game open with a two-run home run that made the score 6-2.

Neither starting pitcher factored into the decision.  Cole McCurry went 5.1 innings and allowed two runs on five hits while striking out four and walking one for the Baysox.  Zack Segovia went six innings for Erie and allowed two runs, one earned on four hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

Michael Morrison pitched two shutout innings and earned the win for Erie.  Wynn Pelzer got the loss giving up two runs on one hit in 0.2 innings pitched.

Game three has a scheduled 1:35 p.m. first pitch and RHP Zach Clark (0-1, 7.94) will take the mound for the Baysox against the SeaWolves’ LHP Jared Wesson (1-0, 1.80).

The Baysox return to Bowie on Thursday, April 26 for a seven-game homestand that includes Pie Day and appearances by current and former Washington Mystics and Wizards players.
