Ballet Theatre of Maryland (BTM), the state’s premier professional ballet company, rounds out its 2011/2012 season with Director’s Choice, a mixed-rep performance of classical and contemporary works, April 13-15 at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts.

One of the pieces to be featured is Annapolis Anthologies: Reflections on Grace, a piece honoring famed Denishawn dancer and local icon Grace Clark.  Grace Clark taught in Annapolis for over forty years, bringing the joy of dance to students of all cultural backgrounds.  2012 marks what would have been Grace Clark’s 100th birthday.  In addition to Annapolis Anthologies, Director’s Choice will feature Primal Dreams, Episodes and the pas de deux from Don Quixote.

Primal Dreams is a contemporary dance with a Native American influence focusing on a man’s journey to self-awareness via the four elements of the Medicine Wheel – Air, Fire, Earth and Water.  In the abstract Neo-Romantic piece, Episodes, the melodies of Rachmaninov set the backdrop as a pair of lovers weaves through a series of interludes.  The Wedding Pas de Deux from Don Quixote is an exciting piece highlighting all the bravura and showmanship of the Spanish ambiance.

Performances will be held Friday, April 13 and Saturday, April 14 at 7:00pm and Sunday, April 15 at 2:00pm.  Following the Sunday matinee, a celebration will be held in honor of Grace Clark’s birthday, with light refreshments and cake to be served.

Tickets are $45 for adults, with discounts available for seniors, students, children and military.  Tickets may be purchased through Maryland Hall’s box office 410.280.5640 or mdhallarts.org.
