UPDATE: Man Dies From Injuries In Annapolis Accident-Fire

A 25 year old man died this morning from an accident on Sunday morning when his vehicle ran into a garage and caught fire. The police report follows:

On March 11, 2012, at approximately 4:29 a.m., officers from the Southern District responded to the 1200 block of Fort Hill Court in Annapolis for a report of a vehicle into a home. Anne Arundel County Fire Department Personnel and Southern District officers arrived on scene and discovered a 25-year-old male with life threatening injuries. Crash Investigators from the Traffic Safety Section were dispatched to the scene to assume responsibility for the investigation.

The initial investigation revealed that the Jeep Cherokee entered the driveway of a residence in the 1200 block of Fort Hill Court and collided with the garage door of the residence. The garage door broke free from its closed position and was pushed into the garage by the Jeep Cherokee. The driver of the vehicle was apparently passed out with his foot on the gas pedal, which caused the right rear wheel to spin continuously until it caught fire. The fire burnt the right rear quarter panel of the vehicle and eventually entered the passenger compartment of the vehicle. The residence was unoccupied at the time of the crash. It is unknown at this time if alcohol or a medical condition may have contributed to this collision. The investigation is ongoing.

The driver was flown to John Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, where he died from his injuries late this morning.
