The Annapolis Tapestries

Needlepoint stitchers are needed for hand painted, one-of-a-kind tapestries during the 18th Century Annapolis Tapestries exhibit at Historic Annapolis Museum, 99 Main Street, weekend afternoons throughout 2012. In addition, volunteers with professional experience in: 1. Marketing and promotion for this historic project; 2. Canine Companions, 4th Annual Sails & Tails Fundraiser, Sunday, April 22, 2012

The Capital Chapter of Canine Companions for Independenceis a part of the largest organization in the country providing free, assistance dogsto the handicapped.  Sponsors and attendees are being sought for this gala fundraiser being held at Pusser’s Caribbean Grille at the Annapolis Marriott Waterfront,Sun., Apr. 22, 2012 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm. The event will also include: Canine Companions Assistance Dog Demonstration, a Silent Auction, Hors d’oeuvres, Wine Tasting by Elk Run Vineyards, Chocolate Tasting by Perfections, and Wine Pull. First Book-Anne Arundel County

First Book Anne Arundel is a nonprofit whose mission is to provide children from low-income families with their first new books free. Historic Annapolis Foundation

Historic Annapolis in partnership with Bates Middle School and Dr. Joan M.E. Gaither will be conducting an exciting two-part Threads of Time community event from 1:00-3:00 pm on Mon., Mar.19 and again from 8:00-10:30 am Fri., Mar. 23, 2012. Threads of Time addresses the important local event in 1966 when Bates High School in Annapolis was integrated. Sixth-grade Bates Middle School students are currently studying this period in history. Working with local artist Dr. Joan M.E. Gaither, students will be creating documentary story quilts, illustrating the local story of desegregation and what it means to the students today.Volunteers are needed to assist at different work stations by: digitally scanning/copying completed student designs, ironing of transfer prints, and cutting of cloth. Watershed Stewards Academy–Tree Planting March 27-28, 2012

WSA is coordinating a large tree planting with 380 Central Middle School 8th graders on Tues.–Wed., Mar. 27 -28, 2012 on the campus at 221 East Central Ave, Edgewater MD during school hours (8:30am – 2:30pm).  Adult volunteers are being sought to help by supervising small groups of students in proper planting and mulching techniques for planting up to 350 trees.  For more information, contact Lara Mulvaney, Program Assistant, WSA at 410-222-3831 or [email protected].

 

 

National Remember Our Troops Campaign

The National Remember Our Troops Campaign is a 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to honoring all military service members, all veterans, and their families, for their service and sacrifice, supporting those in need to the best of our ability, and letting them know they are not forgotten. More specifically, we provide recreational therapy for wounded troops and disabled veterans. We offer employment programs for unemployed veterans, transitional housing for homeless vets… We are proactive combating major stress, PTSD and suicide among service members and veterans… and we honor the families of service members killed in the line of duty. Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC)

This Nonprofit agency provides job training and placement services to low income unemployed and underemployed residents of Anne Arundel County.  A wide variety of volunteers are needed to assist with basic computer, GED, English as a Second Language, resume writing, math skills, writing skills, job skills, job interviewing classes and much more. Classes are held in Annapolis, daily from 9 am to 3 pm and on Mondays and Wednesdays evenings from 6 pm to 9 pm. Executive Director is Ed Greene.

      Office volunteers are needed at the 1908 Forest Drive office Mon through Thurs from 9 am to Noon to answer phones, take messages, keep the Director’s calendar, assist clients, and assist with paper work and light filing. Patriots Technology Training Center 15th Annual Youth Summit on Technology, May 4-5, 2012

Patriots Technology Training Center helps keep students motivated with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) related activities and to connect them to mentors, internships, and scholarships. It is sponsoring the 15th Youth Summit on that will be held on Fri.-Sat., May 4–5, 2012 at Bowie State University. In an effort to make this event a success volunteer help is needed with planning, recruiting students and parents, identifying sponsors, registration, managing exhibits, assisting with logistics, workshop support, and more. SPCA of Anne Arundel County

Volunteers, age 18 and up (or 13-17 with parental accompaniment), are needed to walk dogs, socialize cats, provide foster care for “in-need” animals, help with adoption shows, bathe and brush dogs or help with any other available opportunities. Regular volunteers walk dogs, play with cats, provide foster care for “in-need” animals, help with adoption shows, bathe and brush dogs, assist potential adopters, and help with events. Wish List of Items needed for the shelter: premium dog, puppy, cat and kitten food; six-foot nylon leashes and adjustable nylon puppy and adult collars; covered cat beds (not foam);grooming brushes, combs, nail trimmers and clippers and more. The shelter is open for donations on Mon., Tues., Fri., Sat. & Sun. from 9 am – 4 pm , and Wed. and Thurs from 9 am – 7 pm. Contact 410-268-4388.

·     8:00 am–1:00 pm, Sun., April 29, 2010, 21st Annual “Walk for the Animals”: Volunteers are needed to help in a variety of roles for this fundraiser being held at Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis. The event features sponsor giveaways, information about animal welfare agencies, vendors with all kinds of products, and a demonstration by the AA County Police K9 Unit.
