Chief Teare Continues Silent Treatment Despite Subpoena. Anne Arundel County’s top cop is refusing to attend an upcoming County Council meeting, despite a subpoena ordering him to do so.Police Chief James Teare’s attorney advised him not to attend, saying the subpoena is “invalid.” “We issued the subpoena because members of the public are demanding answers, and I think they deserve answers, and so do we,” said Councilman Jerry Walker, R-District 7.

Drivers In Annapolis Honk Horns To Protest Taxes. Debate on the state budget in the House took a slight detour Thursday as Republicans started to rev up amendments and a protest broke out in the streets that could be heard in the chamber.WBAL-TV 11 News reporter David Collins said the $35.9 billion budget breaks down to 20 percent of tax dollars funding entitlements, 40 percent goes to agencies and another 40 percent is given to the counties in the form of grants.

High School Football Player Knocks Out Masked Man.  A man wearing a ski mask tried to assault a student at a Howard County school but got knocked out himself.Howard County schools spokeswoman Patti Caplan said Long Reach High Schoolwas dismissing students Wednesday when the man arrived on campus. Caplan said the man tried to assault a student, a junior on the school’s football team, but missed. The football player punched the man, knocking him out.

New Scam: Jury Request Summons. Maryland officials are warning residents about a scam that involves someone claiming to be a jury duty coordinator who’s trying to get people’s personal information over the phone.The Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities and the Maryland Department of Aging issued the warning Thursday.
