Anne Arundel County Council Finally Appoints new Member. The Anne Arundel County Council has chosen a 31-year-old Severn man to fill a vacant seat on the council, ending weeks of deadlock.The council voted Monday to appoint Marine reservist Peter I. Smith to the District 1 seat formerly held by Daryl D. Jones, who is serving a five-month federal prison term for failing to file his taxes.Smith faced competition from 70-year-old former state Sen. Michael J. Wagner, a Ferndale business owner. Ten people had applied for the seat.

Police: Woman Abducted In North Carolina Possibly Headed To Maryland. A man and an abduction victim could be headed toward Maryland, authorities in North Carolina said Monday.Craven County, N.C., sheriff’s officials said Katherine Bolton, 28, called 911 to report a man breaking into her house in the Spring Garden area. Investigators said they received noticed of an alarm activated at the house.

Archdiocese Names New Archbishop Of Baltimore. Baltimore’s new archbishop will come from Connecticut, the Archdiocese of Baltimore confirmed to WBAL-TV 11 News. William Edward Lori, who currently serves as bishop of the Diocese of Bridgeport, Conn., will replace Cardinal Edwin O’Brien, who was elevated by the pope last month to serve in Rome.

Marylanders Push For Foreclosure Relief. Consumer advocates are calling for relief after more than 14,000 Maryland families learned in January they may lose their homes.WBAL-TV 11 News reporter Barry Simms said the consumers are asking big banks to take last week’s mortgage settlement a step further by launching a new principal reduction program in the next 30 days.Outside Wells Fargo Bank in downtown Baltimore, Roger Williams explained both his frustration and his resolve.
