Joanna Conti Calls For Leopold’s Resignation

| March 03, 2012, 01:16 PM | 1 Comment

We spoke with Joanna Conti, former candidate for County Executive who ran against John Leopold in 2010 regarding the indictment.  Throughout the campaign, many of Conti’s political signs had disappeared. This indictment alleges that on several occasions Leopold personally removed the signs.  We spoke with Ms Conti about the indictment and she offered the following statement:

Mr. Leopold’s alleged use of county employees for political work and personal errands is bad enough.  Requiring our professionally-trained police officers to wait around during his sexual trysts in parking lots and to empty his catheter is absolutely outrageous.  And with all the serious problems facing our county, I find it pathetic to think that John Leopold might have been spending his time stealing my signs.  If these charges are true, Mr. Leopold is not fit to hold office and should resign immediately.

Eye On Annapolis has also obtained a copy of the 9-page indictment which can be read here (PDF).

  1. Mandy Johnson says:

Unfortunately, Mr. Leopold’s decades of public service will be forgotten in ridiculous business which has reduced our local media to nothing more than a “Murdoch” scandal sheet – regardless of how he has unfailingly served this county for decades as well as his constituents in Hawaii prior to that. Such “sexploits” while having no place in the welfare of our County or State and Nation are not new to it. There are a few still holding office or remaining public figures who sould have been put under equal scrutiny. CE Leopold if found guilty as a result differs only by being single! As such his sex life is his own, with a consenting adult and on his own time! Given his age, health, height it is highly unlikely he is capable of such theatrical escapades in a public place only to successfully fight media conviction and then return for another “session”. This is John Leopold not Tom Cruise or Alan Rickman! Politics is a dirty business in general but what is unacceptable is the witch-hunting involved in this case. As for utilizing police officers; Mr. Leopold is from a different generation of public officials and a time when it was acceptable for police and “the minions” to make the coffee, pick up the laundry, chauffeur, fetch, carry and play “gofer”. We professional women of the sixties and seventies had to put up with other duties as assigned and it was the basis of our “revolution” for professional equality and also part of the job and the training. We knew how to fight back, legally and efficiently and we did. Who sets the rules governing how public servants are used when on assignment to a public figure and how are they violated in this case? Does the service end at 5 pm and not continue over the weekend or after hours. Of course not! It’s part of “rank having privilege” and a heck of lot safer than normal law enforcement duty in the county – moreover if a non police officer were used it would still come out of tax coffers. These charges and any judicial result are a total waste of tax dollars which should be used on education and training our unemployed. Furthermore on the subject of signs – ban these eyesores everywhere other than privately owned property where the owners take full responsibility for their removal. As for Ms. Conti – Only eight years ago she was running for congress in Colorado and clearly she has an agenda regardless of where she resides. Since then there has been one unsuccessful bid for AA County Executive coupled with a vindictive campaign that bordered on libel. As her latest bid in progress this political newcomer clearly has a great deal to gain by jumping on the bandwagon but little in experience the political workforce of this county to fill the spot. Whatever the outcome of this very sad affair there will be many holding on to the “No smoke without fire” reasoning and the career of a very worthy County Executive is in ruins. The question is exactly what have we the electorate and the taxpayers gained from this rubbish?
