Compost Bin & Rain Barrel Sale – Save The Date

English: Composting in the Escuela Barreales.

As part of his Clean and Green initiative and in an on-going effort to lessen the impact on our landfills and waterways, Mayor Joshua J. Cohen announces the sale of rain barrels and compost bins.

The truck-load sale will be held from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 17 and Sunday, March 18 at K&B True Value – 912 Forest Drive in Annapolis.

“This is a win-win situation,” Mayor Josh Cohen said. “The person buying the barrel or bin benefits from the discounted pricing. The environment benefits from reduced pollution and waste going to local landfills.”

This Sustainable Annapolis initiative will feature The Earth MachineTM Backyard Compost Bin for $45 and the SYSTERN Rain Barrel for $55 on a first come, first served basis.  This is a significant savings from the regular retail prices of $100.00 and $120.00 respectively.

By using an Earth MachineTM Backyard Compost Bin, a single-family household can divert a significant portion of waste from going to the landfill. Homeowners can use the Earth Machine™ to compost fruit, vegetable scraps, crushed eggshells, tea bags, coffee grounds and filters from their kitchen, mulched leaves, dried grass, garden plants, old potting soil and soft plant stems from the garden. The resulting compost can be used as a rich soil additive for lawns and gardens to give you greener grass, healthier flowers and better fruits and vegetables.

Using the SYSTERN Rain Barrel will help to reduce water pollution and soil erosion within your community while conserving water, a valuable natural resource.  Rainwater harvesting drastically reduces water demand, preserving municipal water supplies.  City of Annapolis residents can also receive an annual $20 credit on their water bill by completing a stormwater credit application found on the City’s website.

This truck-load sale is presented by K&B True Value and the Department of Neighborhood and Environmental Programs’ Sustainable Annapolis Program at no cost to the City.

You do not need to be a resident of Annapolis to take advantage of this offer. Payment will be accepted in cash, check, or credit card (Visa, MC).  There will be rain barrel demonstrations provided at the event by the Annapolis Environmental Commission.
