The Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights (RFK Center) is currently displaying its celebrated “Speak Truth To Power” photography exhibition at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI Marshall).  The exhibition will be presented in the BWI Marshall International Terminal through May 31, 2012.

“My father once said that ‘those with the courage to enter the moral conflict will find themselves with companions in every corner of the world,’” said Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, RFK Center board member.  “Through this exhibition, we ensure that these courageous human rights defenders will find companions in Baltimore and beyond.”

“Speak Truth To Power” is a collection of moving and powerful photographs by the late Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist Eddie Adams.  The images document courage by featuring human rights defenders around the globe.  The exhibition examines human rights by highlighting issues such as nuclear disarmament, children in war, environmental activism, and religious self-determination.  The RFK Center’s “Speak Truth To Power” exhibition has traveled to more than 20 cities around the world since its initial launch at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, DC.  The exhibition at BWI Marshall was made possible with the support of Constellation Energy.

“We are proud to display these stirring, challenging photographs,” said Paul J. Wiedefeld, Executive Director of BWI Marshall.  “In recent years, we have presented many diverse examples of high-quality artwork here at BWI Marshall.  This exhibition continues our commitment to provide a positive, memorable travel experience for our customers.”

The RFK Center’s Speak Truth To Power, based on a book written by human rights activist and the Center’s president Kerry Kennedy, also features a play Speak Truth To Power, Voices from Beyond the Dark, by renowned playwright Ariel Dorfman.  The Speak Truth To Power human rights education curriculum has been taught to hundreds of thousands of students in countries around the world including the U.S., Italy, Romania, Cambodia and South Africa, to name a few.  Each student is given a tool kit for action to create change in the classroom, the community, the country, and globally.

BWI Marshall Airport recognizes the valuable role of art and architectural enhancements.  BWI Marshall incorporates a number of permanent and rotating exhibitions throughout the Airport.  High-quality paintings, photographs, sculptures, art glass installations, and other enhancements are featured throughout the BWI Marshall facilities.

The Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice & Human Rights ( was founded in 1968 by Robert Kennedy’s family and friends as a living memorial to carry forward his vision of a more just and peaceful world.  Today, the RFK Center for Justice and Human Rights exemplifies Robert Kennedy’s belief that all individuals have the power and responsibility to make a difference, and that individuals working collectively can transform the world.  The RFK Center’s core programs focus on the power of the individual, working through alliances and organizations, to generate change.
