Maryland Senate Approves Same Sex Marriage Bill. Maryland is poised to become the eighth state in the nation to approve same sex marriage after state Senators voted 25-22 Thursday to approve the governor’s Civil Marriage Protection Act of 2012. There were 24 Democrats and 1 Republican who voted in favor, and 11 Democrats and 11 Republicans who voted against.

Shaving Armpits Leads To Forfeit For Broadneck Swim Team. The girls’ varsity swim team at an Anne Arundel County high school was forced to forfeit the county championship after a violation was discovered.The Broadneck High School girls’ varsity swim team had won the championship meet on Feb. 10, but because officials later discovered that one of the athletes and a coach improperly prepared for it, the championship was awarded to Severna Park High School, according to Anne Arundel County Public Schools spokesman Bob Mosier.

Mild Winter Could Jump-Start Spring Allergy Season. The mild winter weather has people out and about in Baltimore enjoying the weather. Despite Mild Winter, Snow Removal Money Is Almost Gone. With mild weather and little snow this winter, Maryland residents might think the state is saving a bundle in snow removal costs, but it’s not.The State Highway Administration said it has spent more than $30 million of its $36 million snow removal budget for this winter.WBAL-AM reported that state highway crews have been called out 14 times this winter.Despite the fact that there have only been two or three times when salting or plowing was needed in the Baltimore area, crews must be ready for a storm, even if the forecast changes.
