Inmate Convicted In Corrections Officer’s Slaying. An Anne Arundel County jury has convicted an inmate accused of killing a corrections officer.The jury found Lee Stephens, 32, guilty of first-degree murder Thursday in the stabbing of Cpl. David McGuinn at the now-closed Maryland House of Correction in 2006.Stephens is now eligible for the death penalty at sentencing, which is set for next week. Prosecutors said Stephens and Lamar Harris planned to attack McGuinn, but Stephens was acquitted of conspiracy. Harris was found not competent to stand trial.

Annapolis Break In Nets Salmon And Chicken Salad.  A person who broke into an Annapolis home Wednesday afternoon didn’t end up with much, but did steal enough for a meal.Chicken salad and a can of salmon were the items Annapolis police said were takenfrom a home in the 700 block of Glenwood Street.The break-in occurred between 11:30 a.m. and 1:10 p.m. while the resident was away, police said.Police said the culprit broke a lock to get inside.

Maryland To Get $960M In Foreclosure Settlement. The state is set to receive $960 million as part of a 49-state mortgage foreclosure settlement to help distressed homeowners.After serving two tours in Iraq, Kevin Matthews bought his home in northeast Baltimore in 2008. But a couple years later, like so many other Marylanders, he fell on hard times and couldn’t make his mortgage payments. Before he knew it, he said he was a victim of an illegal eviction.”I was not served with any legal notice. I wasn’t served through a sheriff or the courts. The foreclosure wasn’t ratified,” Matthews said.

Officer Describes Beaten, Bruised Lacrosse PlayerThe first officer to arrive at the apartment of a slain University of Virginia lacrosse player said he thought he was responding to an alcohol overdose but quickly discovered the woman had been bruised and bloodied. Charlottesville police Officer K.W. Blackwell testified Thursday morning in the murder trial of George Huguely V. He is accused in the May 3, 2010 death of Cockeysville native Yeardley Love. Both Huguely and Love played lacrosse at UVa.Police and EMTs broke down the crime scene for the jury in morning testimony. The jurors then heard from people who knew Huguely and Love.
