Anybody who lives in the vicinity of Harbor House or Eastport Terrace knows that this is NOT an isolated incident. This one made the news simply because there was an injury, and no way to brush it under the rug. There was a while when the new police chief stepped in that gun shots and crime in general seemed to be way down in those communities, but it’s back to business as usual in the last 6 months. It’s out of control and something needs to be done. Handguns, shotguns, semi-automatic, we have heard it…and NO it’s not fireworks, I know the difference after 6 years of living near this B.S. We live outside of the housing projects and have placed calls EVERY time we have heard gunshots…but that’s not enough. People living IN the communities need to step up and call the police BEFORE these violent criminals have a chance to pull the trigger. If you see suspicious activity, REPORT it. PERIOD. At the very least, dispatch will send a car out to the community, and higher police visibility = lower crime. I would think that our Alderman would take a stance on this, since he has spent time in the neighborhood and knows the situation…Isn’t that what he was elected for?
