County Executive John R. Leopold today appointed longtime Budget Officer John Hammond as Chief Administrative Officer.
“John Hammond has served the County in several capacities for two decades and has the institutional knowledge necessary to keep us moving forward,” County Executive Leopold said. “He offers the unvarnished truth on the important issues that we face and is a valued member of the Cabinet. His expertise on the budget particularly will make him effective in this position.”
Hammond, 63, has 18 years of experience in County government. He was first asked to join the County as Finance Officer when he was serving as an Annapolis Alderman in 1993 and later became the County’s Budget Officer. Hammond has served as acting Chief Administrative Officer several times in the past.
Assistant Budget Officer Kurt Svendsen, 48, will serve as Acting Budget Officer through the budget process. Svendsen has worked in the past with the Planning Advisory Board and the Spending Affordability Committee. The appointment is effective immediately. The Chief Administrative Officer position was vacant due to the passing of Dennis Callahan.
