Solomiya Ivakhiv

Guest Conductor and Guest Violinist Featured with the Londontowne Symphony Orchestra

Maestro Taras Krysa from the University of Las Vegas will lead the LSO in an array of music inspired by the champions of French composition. The concert will feature Solomiya Ivakhiv, the world-renowned violinist. The Orchestral program will include Ravel’s Daphnis and Chloe Suite No. 2 ,Ives’ The Unanswered Question and Debussy’s Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun. Ms. Ivakhiv will close the program with Barber’s Violin Concerto. This concert is filled with mystifying orchestral colors and imagery – typically French – an afternoon not to be missed!

Ms. Ivakhiv, born in Ukraine, has performed at major festivals including Steamboat Springs, Normandy Chamber Music Festival, and Prussia Cove; and her performances have aired on National Public Radio, Voice of America Radio, Ukrainian National Radio and Television, and China’s Hunan Television. As a chamber musician, Ms. Ivakhiv collaborates with many of today’s finest artists including Joseph Silverstein, Claude Frank, and Steven Isserlis, and was recently appointed Artistic Director of Music at the Institute Chamber Music Series (MATI) in New York City. A consummate orchestral musician, she regularly performs with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony, and as guest concertmaster with the Fresno Philharmonic and Augusta Symphony.

The concert will take place at the Annapolis High School on Riva Road at 3:00 PM, Sunday, January 15, 2012.

General admission is only $15, seniors are $10, and all students and children are free when accompanied by a paying adult. Tickets are available at the door or before the concert by visiting the LSO site at www.LondontowneSymphonyOrchestra.org or by calling (410) 562-8920.

The LSO is one of the area’s premier orchestras. They serve our community through inexpensive quality classical music by continuing to highlight the gems of the orchestral repertoire while featuring our youth, our wonderfully talented local soloists and outstanding orchestra members.
