Police Report: Route 50 Quadruple Fatal Accident

The Maryland State Police has released the following statement regarding the accident this morning on Route 50 East which claimed the lives of four people.

Maryland State Troopers continue an investigation into an early morning fatal crash in Anne Arundel County.

The crash claimed the lives of four individuals. Three were pronounced dead at the scene. One was pronounced dead while en route to a local hospital. There were no additional victims involved in the collision.

Three individuals, traveling in one vehicle, were pronounced deceased at the scene. They are identified as Breanna Marie Franco, 18, Brittany Ann Walker, 19, and Zachary Tyler Rose, 18 years old.

The fourth victim was operating the second vehicle involved in the crash. He was being transported to a local hospital when he succumbed to his injuries. Identification is being withheld pending next of kin notification.

Shortly before 3:30 a.m., Maryland State Troopers from the Glen Burnie Barrack responded to the scene of the crash on eastbound Route 50, east of Maryland Route 424, Davidsonville Road. The preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle, with three passengers, was travelling westbound in the eastbound lanes of Route 50 and struck another vehicle in a head on collision. The vehicle, occupied by the three teenagers briefly caught fire. It is unknown if alcohol or speed were factors in the crash.

It is unknown how the vehicle came to be travelling the opposite direction. Both Anne Arundel County 911 and the Maryland State Police barrack fielded several calls prior to the collision, reporting a vehicle travelling in the wrong lanes on I-97 and on Maryland Route 50. It is not known if these reports are related to the vehicle involved in the collision.

Anne Arundel County Police responded to the scene to assist with the investigation and with traffic control. Anne Arundel County Fire Department also responded and provided support.

Maryland State Highway Administration assisted with road closures. Eastbound Route 50 was closed for approximately four hours.
