Dog And Family Reunited After 4 Years

Dodger is reunited with his family at Anne Arundel County Animal Control

Over four years ago, the Willey Family of Owing Mills, Maryland, lost their Collie mix named “Dodger”. The dog went missing from inside their home while the family was away. Sadly, the family returned home only to find their dog missing with no signs of how he escaped. The family personally conducted an extensive search for the animal and contacted local shelters, but were unable to locate their missing dog.

On December 27, 2011, an older Collie mix was discovered on Honeysuckle Lane in Severna Park and was brought to Anne Arundel County Animal Control by a Good Samaritan. Following usual procedures, Animal Control staff looked for and discovered that the dog was microchipped. The staff subsequently contacted the microchip company to obtain information on his owners. Animal Control staff attempted to make contact with this lost dog’s owners, but were initially unable to do so. The microchip company also had an alternate contact on file and Animal Control staff eventually made contact with a member of the Willey Family residing in Virginia. From there, a family member put staff in contact with the dog’s owner, who now lives in North Carolina.

On December 30, 2011, the owner, Mr. William Douglas Willey, and his sons came to Anne Arundel County Animal Control to be reunited with their lost dog. It remains unknown where “Dodger” had been staying for the past four years, but the dog sustained abrasions on his face and had some missing teeth, which indicated some difficult living circumstances. Animal Control staff are elated to reunite “Dodger” with his family and wish them the best of luck in the future.

Animal Control encourages the public to microchip and register their pets as microchips are an essential tool in reuniting families with their pets. Animal Control holds microchip clinics on the third Thursday of every month. Interested parties are encouraged to contact Animal Control at 410-222-8900, visit the clinic located at 411 Maxwell Frye Road in Millersville, Maryland or to get a microchip implanted by their regular veterinarian. Animal Control offers adopters the option of including a microchip with each animal adopted from the shelter.

“Congratulations to Animal Control on another success story,” County Executive Leopold said. “Dodger’s return to his family underscores the importance of using microchips for tracking and also registering our pets.”
