Maintaining A Healthy Lifestyle

With the holidays, many overindulge in the food and spirits of the season. And although the population is living longer, people are not necessarily maintaining good health.

To help with New Year’s resolutions to become more fit and lose weight, the county Department of Aging and Disabilities is offering a workshop, “Maintaining A Healthy Lifestyle,” in “The Future Is Now! Are You Ready?” series. The program will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 11 at the Arnold Senior Activity Center, 44 Church Road, Arnold.

Dr. Richard A. Bernstein of Annapolis Allergy and Health Enhancement Center will educate attendees at the workshop on ways to improve their lifestyles and live a long and healthy life. Board certified in internal medicine and pulmonary diseases, he has practiced in Annapolis since 1988. For 10 years he practiced pulmonary and critical care medicine before transitioning to internal medicine, asthma and allergies. In addition, he is particularly interested in preventive medicine, nutrition, and the influence lifestyles have on health. He is the author of “May You Live a Long and Healthy Life: A Personal Guide for Optimal Health and Healthy Aging.”

A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Michigan, he attended Vanderbilt University Medical School in Nashville, completed his internship and residency at the Washington, D.C., Hospital Center, and completed a fellowship in pulmonary diseases and critical care medicine at The George Washington University Medical Center.

The Jan. 11 workshop is sponsored by Anne Arundel Medical Center. While grateful for support which helps to cover the costs of the workshops, the Department of Aging and Disabilities does not endorse any particular vendor or business.

To register for the free workshop, call 410-222-4464, Ext. 3094 or go online to www.aacounty.org/aging. Anyone needing accommodations must contact Mary Chaput at 410-222-4464, Ext. 3045, or by e-mail at [email protected] at least seven days in advance of the event. TTY users should call via Maryland Relay at 7-1-1.
