High Speed Chase Lands Suspect In Shock Trauma

Police were led on a pursuit Thursday morning by a person suspected of an armed bank robbery in Baltimore County on Wednesday night.The pursuit began about 11 a.m. Thursday in Anne Arundel County and took officers through Baltimore County and Baltimore City. Police said officers spotted a vehicle suspected in the robbery and tried to stop it, but the driver, a 19-year-old man, kept going. The driver eventually got on Interstate 97 and flashed a handgun out the window.The pursuit ended near Virginia Avenue and Fenor Road in the Baltimore Highlands section of Baltimore County when the driver hit some police cars. The driver was apprehended near Baltimore Highlands Elementary School after police said he got out of the car, threw the gun down and then tried to pick it back up.Two officers shot at the man, hitting him in the lower body, according to police. Sky Team 11 Capt. Roy Taylor reported that the suspect was flown to Shock Trauma.An Anne Arundel County police officer suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

UPDATE: From Anne Arundel County Police, Baltimore County Police are handling the investigation. From Justin Mulcahy, spokesman for Anne Arundel County Police, ” we receive a call to check an occupied vehicle at 10:54 a.m. The Southern District received information that a vehicle matching the description of a vehicle from armed robbery in another jurisdiction was at the Wawa in Edgewater. Officers located vehicle and suspect drove off, eventually heading up 97 North. Incident ended in Baltimore County with suspect being taken into custody.”

UPDATE: From reports, there were no other injuries other than the suspect.

Details are still emerging at this time but from what we have been able to piece together, a suspect in an armed robbery has been shot in Baltimore County after a multi-county high-speed chase that began around 11:30am this morning at the Wawa on Solomons Island Road in Edgewater.

Police were called to the convenience store to check on a suspicious occupied vehicle. The vehicle fled the scene and officers pursued it onto I-97. Meanwhile, Anne Arundel County Police received word that the suspect vehicle was wanted in connection with an armed robbery.

The chase went up I-97, onto Baltimore & Annapolis Boulevard and ended near Virginia Avenue and Fenor Road in the Baltimore Highlands section of Baltimore County.

The suspect was shot in the leg and transported to Shock Trauma in Baltimore. According to  our media partner, WBAL-TV, there were at least 50 police cars at the scene of the apprehension from Anne Arundel County, Baltimore County, Baltimore City, and the Maryland State Police.

We do not have any information on the suspect or the alleged armed robbery at this time.  This story will be updated as details become available.
