Annapolis Director Of Parks & RecreationSteps Down

| December 21, 2011, 05:09 PM | 0 Comments

Mayor Joshua J. Cohen announces that LeeAnn Plumer, the City’s Recreation and Parks Director, will step down on January 6 to allow more time with family.

LeeAnn was hired as the director by former Mayor Dean L. Johnson and has served in that position for the past 12 years. She spent several of those years ensuring the success of the 80,000 square-foot “Pip” Moyer Recreation Center (PMRC) at Truxtun Park, which opened its doors in December of 2009.

“LeeAnn’s leadership has transformed our Recreation and Parks department into one of the premier departments in the region,” Mayor Cohen said. “The department’s motto of ‘Healthy Living Starts Here’ reflects LeeAnn’s belief that its mission is about more than pure recreation or parks; it is about nurturing our human spirit and the connection we feel with our community.

“The hallmark of LeeAnn’s tenure will no doubt be our beautiful ‘Pip’ Moyer Rec Center. She has been its guiding light from its inception and design through to its construction and programming. LeeAnn has given so much to our City, and while we will dearly miss her talents, passion, and good humor, I wish her and her family nothing but the best for the future.”

LeeAnn was instrumental in streamlining the registration process for the hundreds of programs available by introducing on-line registration and membership. LeeAnn also created the program guide, a quarterly, 16 page guide listing all the City department’s programs and events.

Also to LeeAnn’s credit is the completion of Back Creek Nature Park, The Annapolis Waterworks Park and the transformation of several street-end parks. She is known for visiting area playgrounds in an effort to keep playground equipment up-to-date and consistent with safety codes.

The acting director will be named prior to Ms. Plumer’s departure. A national search for her replacement is currently underway.
