Arundel Lodge

This nonprofit has residential and day Psychiatric Rehabilitation Programs for approximately 160 individuals with mental illness. Volunteers are needed year round to assist the staff with clerical duties and to teach life skills, play board or card games at the drop-in center go for walks with members and help with social or recreational events. Arundel Lodge is in need of volunteers who speak Spanish to translate for mental health counseling appointments on Wednesday evenings from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Lodge is also in need of a volunteer to staff the front desk and answer the door on Wednesday evenings from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Contact Ann Jackson at [email protected] or 443-433-5942 to volunteer or for more information.

 

Bello Machre

Volunteer your time and talent and be a part of our growing Bello Machre family.  Bello Machre provides loving homes and support to people with developmental disabilities. A wide range of opportunities are available throughout Anne Arundel County. Contact Evette at 443-702-3064 or [email protected]. Special volunteer opportunities:

§         4:30–6:30 pm, Tues.–Wed., Dec. 6 & 7, 2011, Holiday Decorating: Volunteers are needed to decorate Bello Machre homes to make them festive for the holiday season. An ideal community service project for family, friends, and community groups.

§         4:30–6:30 pm, Sat., Dec. 17, Decorating Contest: A few volunteers are needed to choose the winners of the decorating contest. Homes will get points for theme, presentation, and creativity.

§         11:00 am–3:00 pm, Dec. 20, 22, 27, and 29, 2011, Pastry Pick-ups: Bello Machre has partnered with Startbucks to provide pastries for our homes. Volunteers are needed to pick up pastry donations on Tues. & Thurs. and bring them to Bello Machre’s main office.

 

Cats R Us, Inc.

This nonprofit feral cat rescue group operates two small shelters in the Annapolis and Arnold areas. The main focus is TNR (Trap, Neuter and Return). The shelter in Arnold is a “TNR” shelter, in which stray and feral cats already living outdoors are humanely trapped, then evaluated, vaccinated, sterilized, and eartipped for identification by veterinarians. This is a NO KILL facility and these cats will stay with CRU as long as it takes for them to find their forever home. Qualified foster volunteers are needed to provide foster homes. Volunteers, age 8 and older, are needed to assist with cleaning the shelters, to attend adoption shows at PetSmart in Annapolis, to make cat/kitten home deliveries, or to sit and spend time with wonderful cats. An adult should accompany volunteers younger than age 16. Training will be provided for shelter and adoption workers. Parental consent forms are required. Rob’s Barber Shop Community Foundation

This nonprofit features projects that provide no-charge grooming services for individuals who cannot afford to attend the barber or beauty salon. Volunteers, minimum age 16 are needed for administrative tasks. Volunteer barbers and hairstylist are also needed to serve homeless and other needy persons in Odenton and surrounding areas. FLEX Volunteer Program

Harmony House- Holiday Decorating (Pasadena):

A small group of volunteers are needed to help with decorating Harmony House for the holidays and setting up holiday crafts for families who use their facility. Harmony House provides a home setting for visits between parents and children who were in the care and custody of the Department of Social Services.  Volunteers are needed on Thurs., Dec. 1, 2011 from 11am -1 pm.  Volunteers interested in this project should email sarahlitts@volunteerannearundel.org.
Arundel Lodge (Annapolis):

A small group of volunteers are needed to help with the Arundel Lodge Open Eye Gallery. Volunteers will help with matting and framing the artwork for the gallery, as well as helping with taking down and replacing artwork in the gallery space. Fouse Center

This Glen Burnie nonprofit provides transitional housing for homeless men in Northern Anne Arundel County. Its goal is to assist men with the transition from homelessness to independent and stable living. Contact Mario at 410-609-1224 or [email protected]

  • ·         Holiday donations needed such as: food items, including drink mixes, prepared foods, nonperishable, frozen foods and fresh foods such as milk, eggs, fruits and vegetables; toiletry items such as deodorant, toothbrushes, shampoo, etc; new or gently used men’s clothing, including suits, ties, shirts, dress shoes pants, jackets, hats, gloves, new socks and underwear; cleaning supplies, paper products, cookware; new or gently used linens, such as twin sheet sets, pillows, pillow cases and bath towels. Snow Patrol

The Department of Aging and Disabilities is partnering with the Volunteer Center For Anne Arundel County and the Citizens Corps Council to recruit and deploy church youth groups, families, scouts, and high school groups as well as adult organizations for the “Snow Patrol”. Isolated seniors with medical needs and individuals with disabilities need assistance with removing snow and ice during winter storms so that driveways and sidewalks can be accessed by caregivers or so that the affected seniors can reach the street to be provided transportation for medical care, etc. This is a call for groups to register with the Volunteer Center for the Snow Patrol. Volunteer Groups are needed now and must pre-register in order to help residents with disabilities and medical needs during this winter’s storms. St.  Philip’s Family Life Center, Inc.

Adult volunteers are needed to provide structured out-of-school educational activities as part of the Extended Educational Enrichment Experience (Quad E) Program designed to involve families and to help improve academic achievement among 5th to 8th graders. Those who would benefit would have low academic performance, and many would come from low income families living in subsidized housing, and attend elementary and middle schools in the Annapolis feeder area. A variety of volunteer positions are available including: Tutors, Mentors, Homework Helpers, Professional Counselors, Life Skills Trainers, Cultural Enrichment Providers, Health Care Professionals, Fundraisers, and more. USO Outreach Center, Ft Meade

USO is a nonprofit organization serving the military and their families through a variety of events and activities, many of which are supported by volunteers. We need volunteers with the skills or experience for the following areas: Administration, Scheduling, Decorating, Event Planning, Outreach, Photography, Property, Publicity and Website.
