Teen Dies In Pasadena Crash

On October 12, 2011, at approximately 7:37 a.m., officers from the Eastern District responded to the area of Mountain Road and Fairwood Drive in Pasadena for a report of a serious motor vehicle crash.

The operator of a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta, Kala Marie Austin, 17, of Pasadena, sustained life threatening injuries as a result of the crash and was transported by Fire Department personnel to Baltimore Washington Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries. Due to the severity of the crash, members of the Traffic Safety Section assumed responsibility for the investigation.

Initial investigation reveals that the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Mountain Road approaching Fairwood Drive when the operator lost control, crossed over westbound traffic and ultimately collided with an abandoned home, where the vehicle came to rest. Preliminarily, it appears that wet road conditions and speed may have been possible contributing factors in the crash; however, the investigation is ongoing at this time.
