Old Mill Class of 2011 Donates $10K

The Old Mill High School Class of 2011 has collected and made a generous $10,000 donation to the nearby Ruth Parker Eason School, a gift that will be used to purchase technology tools to enhance the educational experience of the special-needs students in the school.

Ruth Parker Eason is a public, separate day school located in Millersville. The school provides a special education program for students ages 3 through 21 with moderate to severe disabilities.

During their high school careers, many of the Old Mill students volunteered at Ruth Eason to earn service credit hours and as part of their Key Club activities. They assisted students in the classrooms and with special vocational and academic activities. In doing so, they saw how much the use of SmartBoards and other technology motivates Ruth Eason students and allows each of them to participate as fully as possible. Old Mill students have asked that their donation be used for technology, including SmartBoards.

“We are extremely touched and very grateful for their generosity,” said Cathleen Larner-Beckett, principal at Ruth Eason School. “They were an amazing group of students who have provided much-needed „typical‟ peer experiences for our students. We are using their gift to purchase SmartBoards, slates, and wireless connectors that will bring the remainder of our classrooms into the 21st century.”
