A Cruise For Cora

Cora Dalik, a local eighteen month old baby girl was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia on July 25, 2011. This is a rare disease of the bone marrow, affects three people for every one million in the United States.
The preferred treatment for Aplastic Anemia is a bone marrow transplant. Cora’s older brother, Andrew (age 5) was a perfect genetic match. Cora received chemo therapy treatments to make way for Andrew’s new, healthy marrow. On September 2, 2011, Andrew underwent the surgery to harvest his bone marrow and doctors administered it to Cora the same day. The doctors call this Cora’s “new birthday.”
Between her pre-operative treatments and her post-operative care, Cora’s medical team at Johns Hopkins Hospital expects her to be hospitalized for approximately four months. The family is undergoing fundraising efforts for Cora’s care and expenses.
On October 21, 2011 a FUNdraising Cruise for Cora will depart Baltimore, MD at 6pm on the Duchess of Pintail. A portion of the cruise costs have been donated by our friends at The River Plantation. Food will be catered by Gary’s Grill and a cash bar provided. There are three levels of tickets are available. Purchasers of Angel and Life Saver tickets will be recognized during the cruise. A fabulous silent auction will be held during the cruise and the family is graciously accepting donations. Huber’s Bus Service will shuttle all attendees from their bus yard at 45 Bremer Drive, Glen Burnie, MD 21061.
To learn more about Cora’s story and to set sail on the Cruise for Cora tickets can be purchased on her website, http://becorageous.blogspot.com/p/upcoming-events.html.
