4th Annual Fish For A Cure Tournament Set For November 5th

Fish For A Cure, a non-profit group in Annapolis MD will be holding it’s fourth annual Fish For A Cure Tournament on Saturday, November 5th on the Chesapeake Bay and at the Fawcett’s Building in Downtown Annapolis.

The fishing tournament has been running since 2007, but has grown considerably in the last couple of years with over 40 boats participating in the event and more than 200 people attending the after tournament party. In 2010 the tournament generated over $70,000 in donations to benefit the Breast Center in the Geaton and JoAnn DeCesaris Cancer Institute at Anne Arundel Medical Center. The goal for the board members at Fish For A Cure (F4AC) is continue to run a fun event and to double their donation in 2011.

“I believe our continued success, in terms of donations, is due to the introduction of the Captains Challenge fundraising competition,” said Greg Lilly, chairman of the board, Fish For A Cure. “As well as participating in the fishing tournament, each Captain has been asked to set a goal of $3,000 for additional fundraising dollars. The Captains have put together team pages on the Website, and are actively encouraging friends, family and colleagues to donate. We display the top five teams on the home page of the F4AC website and so far the competition has been fierce, with a number of Captains hoping not just to catch the biggest fish, but to make the biggest team donation.”

The F4AC board also actively secured a number of local business sponsors including: General & Mechanical Services, The Kahan Center for Pain Management, Quality Associated Incorporated, First Citizens Bank and Chesapeake Whalertowne.

The fishing tournament runs from dawn to 5:00 pm on Saturday November 5th, 2011. The boats can fish anywhere on the Chesapeake Bay, but must in line for the weigh-in at the Fawcett’s Building on Compromise St in Downtown Annapolis by 5:00 pm.

The fishing is followed by the tournament bash, which will also be held at the Fawcett’s Building from 6:00 pm to midnight. The bash will feature local musician Doug Segree, a live auction and prize draw raffles throughout the night.
