Women’s Health And Fitness Day Scheduled

The Pascal Senior Activity Center, 125 Dorsey Road, Glen Burnie, will host an open house and a Women’s Health and Fitness Day on Wednesday, Sept. 28, with multiple activities, speakers, and prizes. A highlight of national Active Aging Week, Sept. 26-30, the event will begin with a 30-minute walk on the BWI Trail in Glen Burnie led by Gary Hedges, center member, at 8:15 a.m. The kickoff will be followed by presentations in center classrooms as well as various demonstrations and displays.

Scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon are “Ask A Dietitian” with Jill Bezek from the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities Nutrition Program; “Ask A Pharmacist,” with a representative from CVS Pharmacy; Balance Testing provided by Fairfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center; and Blood Pressure Screenings conducted by home care specialists Bayada Nurses.

Displays available between 9 a.m. and noon will feature self-defense with Sharon Kluth of Maryland Safe Defense, “Sunscreen and Seniors” with J.J. Beckwith of the Anne Arundel County Department of Health, information on Baltimore-Washington Medical Center, and an introduction to the Johns Hopkins Community Physicians with Gregory J. Lannon.

A Caliente Dance Fitness demonstration with Maya Prabhu of Positive Vibe Fitness will be held at 9 a.m., and a Chair Group Fitness Demonstration will be led by Louise Mulvey of Anne Arundel Community College at 9:30 a.m. Linda Bluford of Triple Sisters Insurance will have a skin care display from 10:15 to 10:45 a.m. Dr. Kaiser Robertson, of Chesapeake Urology Associates of Glen Burnie and chief of urology at Harbor Hospital, will discuss “Female Incontinence Issues” from 11 to 11:30 a.m.

Additional displays will include Harbor Hospital Fitness Center with manager Mike Wozniak, information from the North County Chamber of Commerce, and two staff members from the Department of Aging and Disabilities – Information and Assistance with Wanda Swift, I&A specialist, and Advance Directives with Wanda Nason-Raleigh, guardianship program director.

A box lunch at 11:45 a.m. must be reserved by Sept. 21 by calling 410-222-6240. Participants who attend four or more of specified programs will be entered to win prizes. Raffle drawings will be held at noon.
