Update On Animal Hoarding Case

Last week, authorities raided a Severna Park “rescue organization” and seized 67 cats from deplorable conditions. The following update was just released encouraging people looking for a cat to adopt at the Animal Control facility in Millersville:

As of Saturday September 24, 2011, the Anne Arundel County Animal Control has placed 20 of the cats rescued from the deplorable conditions at the Cool Cats Rescue Center up for adoption. Animal Control is asking any potential adopters to come in and adopt cats from the recent hoarding case or any other cats here at our facility as there are plenty of cats and kittens looking for good homes. Adopters should be aware that the cats from the hoarding situation have a variety of medical statuses, but that the animals will recover faster in a home environment rather than in the shelter.

Potential adopters can view the available animals by visiting the shelter in person or by visiting the Animal Control Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/AACAnimalControl or the County website. Due to the high level of stress in the cats from the hoarding case, Animal Control is attempting to keep their area as quiet and peaceful as possible. The cats from the hoarding case can be adopted by Anne Arundel County residents for as little as $16. For $16, each adopter will be getting a cat that has already been spayed / neutered, Felv / Fiv tested, dewormed, treated for ear mites, given flea preventative, vaccinated against rabies, received the FRCP vaccine and licensed.

Animal Control appreciates the continued support of the community, the Humane Society of the United States, veterinary hospitals, which are donating supplies and veterinarians who are donating their time to care for the cats taken from CCR. If other animal agencies or rescues groups are interested in helping, they can contact Animal Control at 410-222-8900.
