Police: Annapolis Man Assaulted During Home Invasion. A man was hospitalized at Shock Trauma after Anne Arundel County police said he was assaulted during a suspected home invasion.It happened in the 500 block of Francis Nicholson Way in Annapolis. Officers got the call about 9 a.m. Thursday.The victim, whose name hasn’t been released, is being treated for serious injuries. His condition wasn’t released.Police said they are looking for three black men who fled the scene in a vehicle. A vehicle description wasn’t provided.

Maryland Transportation Authority Approves Toll HikesThe Maryland Transportation Authority board approved a revised plan Thursday for the largest toll increase in state history. The nine-member board of the MdTA voted unanimously Thursday to raise tolls on bridges, tunnels and highways beginning Nov. 1. “It’s a very difficult decision. There’s never a good time to do a toll increase. But unfortunately, commitments were made as early as 2005, and when bills come due, you have to have the money to pay for them,” said state Transportation Secretary Beverley Swaim-Staley.

67  Cats Seized From Rescue Center. Several complaints and concerns about deplorable conditions at an Anne Arundel County animal rescue led to the seizure of dozens of cats on Wednesday.Anne Arundel County police and other state officials seized 67 cats in varying medical conditions from the Cool Cats Rescue Center along Benfield Road in Severna Park. Two other cats were found dead, officials said.The seized animals were taken to a facility in Millersville to be assessed.”This case is another reminder that we need to be vigilant about the importance of spay and neutering,” said County Executive John Leopold.

Irene Could Cost BGE Customers.  Hurricane Irene left hundreds of thousands of Marylanders in the dark in August, and it may cost utility customers for months to come. Baltimore Gas and Electric reported Thursday that the storm cost the utility $81 million to restore power. “It’s a very expensive proposition to have to clean up after a storm that had the devastating effect that this one had,” BGE spokesman Rob Gould said.According to the BGE report, crews restored more than 756,000 outages that included replacing 348 poles, about 250 distribution transformers, more than 8,100 fuses and almost 730,000 feet of wire.
