Police: Crofton Teen Sexually Assaulted While Walking Dog.  Two men assaulted a 14-year-old girl Tuesday in Anne Arundel County, police said.Police released composite sketches of two men believed to have assaulted the girl as she walked her dog at about 3:20 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Ridgley and Aberdeen courts.Investigators said the men fled in an older model, red, four-door sedan with faded paint.Both assailants were described as white men in their early 20s between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing between 150 and 175 pounds.

2 Kids Report Suspicious Persons In Anne Arundel County. Officials in Anne Arundel County are investigating two suspicious persons reports that involved children.Police said a 13-year-old girl reported a suspicious Hispanic man hiding in the bushes near her bus stop along Hillsmere Drive and Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.The girl told police the man looked like he was watching the students, but he never approached or spoke to any of them. The girl said she thought she’d seen the man around before.Around 8 p.m., officers were called to South River Terrance in Edgewater for a report of another suspicious person.

Maryland Poverty Rate Highest In Decades. Maryland’s poverty rate has risen to its highest level in almost 20 years.National poverty rates have risen for a fourth consecutive year, which concerns agencies that help those in need.Maryland has seen a steady rise in its poverty rate over the last five years. In 2006, poverty in the state hit 8.4 percent. Last year, it jumped to more than 10 percent, making life even tougher for those included in the latest statistics.”(I’ve had) a very tough time. It’s hard for me to make one end meet the other end,” said Gail Johnson. “I always have something that’s falling in my lap.”Officials with area food banks said they are concerned they can no longer keep up with the increase traffic of those in need.

Some Colleges Looking Past Test Scores. Test results from the popular Scholastic Achievement Test have dropped a bit this year in Maryland, but it seems an increasing number of colleges and universities have de-emphasized the test.WBAL-TV 11 News Education Alert reporter Tim Tooten said the number of schools moving away from a strong focus on the SAT is growing nationwide, some of which include Loyola University Maryland in Baltimore, McDaniel College in Westminster, Goucher College in Towson and Salisbury University in Salisbury.
