UPDATE 09:44am 09/02/2011: From the Anne Arundel County Police Department:
On September 1, 2011 officers from the Annapolis Police Department, Anne Arundel County Police Department, Anne Arundel County Sheriff’s Office, Maryland State Police, Howard County Police Aviation Unit and Maryland Department of General Services Police responded to the Admiral Heights community in Annapolis after Bonrick Lee Barksdale escaped from custody while being held at the District Court lock-up.
Barksdale had appeared before a judge after being arrested on August 26th on a fugitive warrant. Prior to his arrest, detectives from the Anne Arundel County Police Criminal Investigation Division received information from the Greensboro Police Department in North Carolina that Barksdale was in the Anne Arundel area. The authorities in North Carolina wanted Barksdale on numerous charges including kidnapping, attempted 1st degree rape, first degree sex offense and robbery among other charges.
Detectives located and arrested Barksdale without incident at the Park Plaza Hotel in Glen Burnie and charged him on a fugitive warrant. After his initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner on August 27th, he was ordered held without bond. Just prior to being transported to the Anne Arundel County Detention Center, Barksdale attempted unsuccessfully to flee on foot. He was charged with first degree escape and delivered to the detention center.
On September 1st Barksdale was transported to the Annapolis Court House located at 251 Rowe Boulevard to appear before a judge on the fugitive warrant. After his hearing, Barksdale was placed in the District Court’s holding cells. While in the cell area, Barksdale overtook the guard and fled after forcing the guard to open at least two doors.
Barksdale ran from the courthouse and toward the community of Admiral Heights. A Sheriff’s Deputy in the area saw Barksdale and gave chase on foot, but Barksdale eluded capture and disappeared in the area of Dewey Drive in Annapolis.
Officers from the Annapolis Police Department, Anne Arundel County Police Department, Anne Arundel County Sheriff’s Office, Maryland State Police, Howard County Police Aviation Unit and Maryland Department of General Services Police surrounded the area and conducted a search. Several canine units and tactical teams were brought in to conduct a house-to-house search for Barksdale.
A thorough and coordinated search of the entire Admiral Heights community was completed, but failed to turn up Barksdale. During the search, residents were asked to stay out of the neighborhood, but later were escorted to their homes by police officers.
Shortly before midnight, on September 1, 2011, Bonrick Lee Barksdale was apprehended near the intersection of Dewey and Sumner Drive in the Admiral Heights community of Annapolis after a citizen called in a tip about seeing a man fleeing through the neighborhood. During this time, the aforementioned police agencies kept up an intense presence of police units, both covert and uniformed, in the area continuing the search efforts. Barksdale was apprehended by units of the Anne Arundel County and Annapolis City Police Departments, their respective K-9 units and with the assistance of the combined efforts of the Anne Arundel County and Howard County Police aviation unit. At this time the exact movements of Barksdale during the incident is unknown and still under investigation. Barksdale was transported to the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Western District Station where he was processed and then taken before the District Court Commissioner. He is currently being held at the Anne Arundel County Detention Center. The escape from the holding facility in the Annapolis District Court House is still under investigation by the Anne Arundel County Police Department.
UPDATE 12:22am 09/02/2011: Reports that Barksdale has been found and in custody. Unconfirmed reports say that he was discovered hiding in the rafters of a garage on Dewey Drive in the Admiral Heights neighborhood. The homeowner turned the light on in the garage and Barksdale ran from the home towards Schley Avenue where he was captured.
UPDATE: According to police, the County utilizes an armored car company to transport prisoners between the jail and the courts, not a deputy. A female escort was overpowered by Barksdale as he escaped. He did NOT get the guard’s gun. However, because he has been at large, had a local address, and has allegedly committed crimes with guns in past, police are considering him armed and dangerous and warning people to not approach him if seen–call 911.
UPDATE: From WUSA -9, Barksdale overpowered a Deputy and is considered armed and dangerous.

UPDATE: It appears that Barksdale was arrested in Anne Arundel County on assault and intent to kill charges stemming from an incident in North Carolina. Judging from this article, it appears that Barksdale was in court to be arraigned and extradited to North Carolina.
On 09/01 BONRICK LEE BARKSDALE escaped from District Court in Anne Arundel County, located at 251 Rowe Boulevard. BARKSDALE was last seen wearing a green prison shirt and pants, but he had unknown clothing under the green prison garb. BARKSDALE is 25 years old and a former Annapolis resident. BARKSDALE is an African American male, 5’09”, 150 lbs, short cropped black hair, with a slight goatee.
Officers from Anne Arundel County Sheriff’s Department, Anne Arundel County Police, Maryland State Police, Annapolis Police and Annapolis Fire are currently searching the area around the District Court building for Barksdale.
Citizens should call 911 if they see BARKSDALE.
While no one expects an escapee to take shelter in their garage, it does make sense to keep your doors closed when not in use. If repairs are needed, there are several garage door repair companies in the area that can do the job professionally.
