Haiti 80 Bike Ride

| September 17, 2011, 05:42 PM | 0 Comments

What started as a pen-pal relationship  26 years ago has grown to a long-term mission of putting real hands and feet to breaking the cycle of poverty and unemployment in Haiti.

St. Martin’s in the Field Episcopal Church and Day School have  partnered with La Resurrection School in Gros Morne, Haiti by paying staff salaries, funding building projects, installing a community-shared clean water source,  providing hurricane and earthquake relief materials, and subsidizing student meals.

La Resurrection School, located approximately 80 miles north of the Haiti capital of Port au Prince, provides pre-school, primary and secondary education.  Following the 2010 devastating earthquake, the student population has increased from 600 to 850 from the many Haitians who have left the devastated capital city.

School Rector, Pere Jean Lenord Quatorze, dreams of a place where the children of Gros Morne can have a good educational foundation.  The 2011-2012 goal toward that dream is to replace and expand structurally unsound buildings, add solar electric power, and begin the process for a computer lab in a school for 1000 students.
The Haiti 80 Bike Ride takes us 80 kilometers along a scenic bike path to move toward those goals.

Come help us put hands and feet to that dream!
There are varying length rides from 10 miles to 50 miles with a Family Ride around Kinder Park. And an Ice Cream Social to follow the bike ride at Severna Park Community Center Holy Grounds for all registrants at from 12:00  – 2:00 pm.
